How does Astrology work, in short?
I managed to email Brad, the founder of MoonReading.com, to ask him about Astrology and how it works (in brief), as astrology is complex when you really get into it. See his answers below:
Q: Is each plant related to each Chakra? This is how each planet affects our behaviour and general tendencies, and makes us unique.
A: Your insights are incredibly tuned in, and yes, you’re right that each planet resonates with specific aspects of our being, and in some esoteric systems, even with our Chakras. For instance, the Sun is often linked to the Solar Plexus (our sense of self and personal power), while the Moon connects with the Sacral Chakra (our emotions and intuition). The alignment of planets with chakras isn’t a fixed system, but it’s a beautiful way to understand how celestial energy flows through our bodies and affects our tendencies, as you intuitively described.
Q: The readings I got were around 90/95 per cent accurate. I understand it is all about the star, moon, and rising signs in the mix. Is that correct?
A: As for the uncanny accuracy of your readings—what a wonderful thing to hear! Our reports are generated from your exact birth date, time, and location. This allows us to map your natal chart in precise detail and blend both classical astrological wisdom and intuitive interpretations. Your Big Three—Sun in Leo, Moon in Cancer, and Sagittarius Rising—paint a radiant picture of someone warm, imaginative, and visionary, which truly comes through in your message.
Q: I am also aware that our upbringing affects our behaviour, as do transgenerational patterns in our family tree, our other lives, and even brain development/body type. Also, for example, people who have personality disorders are typically a result of trauma (to the Chakra system) in their upbringing, not because of their astrological signs. Is that correct?
A: You’re also absolutely right to consider upbringing, transgenerational patterns, and even brain development as contributing factors to personality and behaviour. Astrology never exists in a vacuum—it offers a lens, not a lock. It’s the soul’s blueprint, but how we build on that blueprint can vary greatly depending on life experience. In that sense, personality disorders are more often rooted in trauma, especially in the early years, and while astrology can shed light on how someone processes such events, it doesn’t cause them.
Q: I tend not to look into daily horoscopes as they can be too general. Is that correct?
A: Lastly, your take on daily horoscopes is shared by many astrology lovers! They can feel general because they’re often written for broad sun-sign audiences. Our deeper reports, like our Astrological Transit Guide and Golden Transit Guide, are built uniquely from your birth chart, so they speak more directly to your lived experience and soul path.
Q: My understanding is that it’s not so much about the star sign as the combination, position, and angle of each planet, sun, and moon (in that house) that affects the amount of celestial energy they give us when we are born. And why does the difference in position affect us differently?
A: Your understanding about planetary positions—signs, degrees, and house placements—affecting the “amount” and quality of celestial energy at birth is spot on. It’s not just which planet is where, but how that planet is angled to others (aspects), how strong its expression is in the sign it resides in (dignity or debilitation), and what house it energises in your natal chart.
Two people may have the same Sun sign, but if one’s Sun is conjunct Jupiter and placed in the 10th house while the other’s is square Saturn and tucked in the 12th, their solar essence will unfold in vastly different ways.
Q: How does your website give such an accurate report so quickly? Does some AI algorithm do it? There is no way some can write that up that quickly, especially if a few have signed up for a reading.
A: Regarding your question about uniqueness, everyone receives a truly one-of-a-kind report based on their birth data. Even a few minutes’ difference in birth time can shift your Ascendant or the houses, which changes the entire energetic framework. The magic lies in the details—your report is custom-woven from them.
Q: Also, I came across this image that illustrates how everything was interconnected. Is that correct?

A: Now, the diagram you shared—how fascinating! It looks like a blend of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life with planetary associations, which ties into the esoteric tradition known as Hermetic Qabalah. In that system, planets are connected to spheres (Sefirot) that map spiritual development. Mars (Geburah), for example, is associated with willpower and disciplined force, very in line with its role in astrology as the planet of action and assertion. While it’s not a mainstream astrological tool, it absolutely shares conceptual DNA with astrology and offers a powerful lens for mystical interpretation.
Q: Is there also a big difference between Chinese and Ayurvedic astrology and the system you are using? Is it just a different mapping system with symbols meaning the same general thing?
A: Yes, there are significant differences between Western, Chinese, and Ayurvedic (Vedic) astrology. Each uses a different zodiac system, cosmology, and charting method, though they often reflect similar life themes through very different symbolic languages. It’s like three maps of the same mountain—each showing unique paths to the summit.
